Congratulations to Gene Tyson and Bing-Jie Ni who have both recently won awards for their work.

Gene Tyson of both AWMC and the Australian Centre for Ecogenomics, has won a UQ Research Excellence Award for his project "Microbial dynamics in a warming world". This project focuses on the processes underpinning methane emissions from thawing permafrost. These northern hemisphere areas are of particular concern as climate change-induced permafrost melt is transforming methane sinks into sources.

Congratulations to Dr Bing-Jie Ni on winning the Early Career Researcher Award at the 2013 EAIT Research, Innovation and Supervision Awards.

In the two and half years since he joined AWMC, he has produced 12 high-quality publications, as well as 6 presentations at national/international conferences.
