Advanced Computer Science Applied to Anaerobic Digestion and Wastewater Treatment

Abstract: In a research group at Cologne University of Applied Sciences (Germany) we use methods from advanced computer science to improve the operation of biogas and wastewater treatment plants. In this presentation you can see various applications taken from our recent research work. Among others they are the estimation of the influent concentration of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), the development of Software Sensors to predict COD and NH4-N in the influent of WWTPs as well as to predict VFA, TA and NH4-N in the liquid phase of a biogas plant. Furthermore, an approach for model-based optimal substrate feed control for biogas plants is shown.
