AWMC Seminar Program: Potable water reuse: drivers and challenges

Potable water reuse: drivers and challenges: Dr Marie-Laure Pype

Abstract: With an increasing demand for water due to global climate change, urbanisation and population growth, alternative sources of water supply have to be used in order to supplement conventional water sources. Considering the social, economic and environmental impacts, water recycling is part of the solution for water scarcity and therefore becomes an increasingly important source of water. Potable water reuse is not a new concept. Since 1968, the city of Windhoek in Namibia blends up to 25% of treated wastewater in its potable water distribution network. So why is it a big deal? This seminar will introduce the different potable reuse options, the technologies, the drivers and challenges using Australian and US case studies.
