AWMC Sponsors 2nd Annual UQ Water Forum

Wednesday, 19 August 2015

The Advanced Water Management Centre has sponsored the 2nd annual UQ Water Forum at The University of Queensland.

The forum, held at UQ's Global Change Institute from 18th – 19th August 2015, consisted of four half-day discussion sessions on the themes of Water for Cities, Water for Productive Economies, Water for the Environment and Water-resilient Communities.

The two day conference brings together researchers across UQ to engage with key invited external guests on current and emerging water impact issues, and sustainable and innovative responses.

AWMC’s Dr Sandra Hall opened the discussion in the session ‘Water for Cities’ by asking participants to think deeply and challenge the perceptions surrounding water management.

Eight ‘lightning’ presentations followed, including one from AMWC’s Ali Farhat on the topic Removal of Persistent Organic Contaminants via Electro-chemically Activated Sulfate, and the impact this could have for future wastewater treatment processes.

Sponsors included Healthy Waterways, City of Gold Coast, UQ’s School of Public Health, Sustainable Mineral Institute, Global Change Institute, and Brisbane City Council.

The inaugural UQ Water Forum in 2014 attracted 31 speakers, some 100 participants from across the UQ faculties and five institutes, and eight external sponsors.
