Chemical Engineering PhD Student Survey results and actions decided by the School

In the past few months, the postgraduate Student Committee of Chemical Engineering captured the diversity of PhD students’ experience within the School of Chemical Engineering by running a survey. The survey was designed to better understand the level of satisfaction with the PhD experience specifically focusing on the topics of student-advisor relationship, performance reviews, work-life balance and mental health. Despite some positive results, the survey highlighted a number of issues. These issues have not been ignored and a series of actions have been discussed by the School in response to this survey. In this week seminar series the survey results will be presented together with the actions decided by the School. This seminar might be different from the others because it is not about the science, it is about the people who make the science happen. It is about recognising the willingness of the students to actively propose solutions in response to their needs and about building a pleasant work environment for both the student and the staff cohorts. The seminar will be a good opportunity to ask questions and give feedback about the actions decided by the School in response to the issues identified.
