The Advanced Water Management Centre’s Dr Shihu Hu has won the Australian Water Associations Queensland Research Innovation Award.

Dr Hu received the award on Friday night at the AWA Qld Gala Dinner held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor.

Dr Hu’s project, Affordable and Sustainable Water Recycling through Optimal Technology Integration, was to investigate and develop next generation technologies that can achieve complete nitrogen removal without using organic carbon, thus enabling maximum bioenergy recovery from wastewater.

The project was funded by the Australian Water Recycling Centre of Excellence and undertaken by Advanced Water Management Centre (AWMC) at The University of Queensland (UQ) together with Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU), Melbourne Water, GHD and Wide Bay Water.

The AWA Research Innovation Award is open to any Australian institution, organisation, individual or company that have made a significant contribution to water research.

The centre’s Dr Guangming Jiang, Dr Qilin Wang, and Dr Katrin Doederer were also finalists in the AWA Qld Awards.
