Major research interests

We can produce valuable products, even fine chemicals, from wastewater. The future will see wastewater as a resource in a biorefinery rather than a waste. This requires not only a major technology shift, it is also a major perception shift. When in 2006 Korneel Rabaey and his colleagues announced the world’s first pilot MFC, it was BBC’s most popular story of the day. This shows that even a dirty business such as wastewater can captivate people worldwide.
