The University of Queensland’s Professor Zhiguo Yuan has been appointed a member of the Australian Research Council (ARC) College of Experts.

The appointment, which follows his ATSE Fellowship award and ATSE Clunies Ross award earlier this year, is a well-deserved recognition of Professor Yuan’s ground breaking work in the water management industry and the depth and breadth of his knowledge in a number of disciplines in applied sciences and engineering.

Professor Yuan, Director of the Advanced Water Management Centre at UQ and Future Technologies Leader in the CRC for Water Sensitive Cities, said he was truly honoured by the position and looks forward to the challenge.

“It is a great honour to be selected for this strategic position with the ARC. The ARC plays an integral role in Australian innovation and discovery, and I look forward to assisting in this pathway,” Professor Yuan said.

ARC College members are experts of international standing drawn from the Australian research community.

“This role provides a unique chance to be involved in facilitating national research excellence, and I will carry out my responsibilities both enthusiastically and with the utmost integrity.”

The ARC College plays a key role in identifying research excellence in the ARC National Competitive Grants Program, moderating external assessments and recommending fundable proposals, recruiting and assigning assessors and in implementing peer review reforms in established and emerging disciplines, as well as interdisciplinary areas.
